Kolkata is set to witness a major traffic restriction due to the ‘Kolkata Police SDSL (Safe Drive Save Life) Half Marathon.’ Several important roads in the city will be closed from the night of February 8th until noon on February 9th. The police have issued a traffic advisory with alternative routes to manage congestion.

Context

The Kolkata Police have announced major traffic diversions to facilitate the smooth conduct of the ‘SDSL Half Marathon’ on Sunday February 9th, 2025. As per the official notice road closures will begin from ‘4:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Sunday’ affecting multiple key roads including ‘RR Avenue, AJC Bose Road and Khidderpore Road’.

In preparation for the event ‘Red Road and Maidan areas will be closed from 10:00 PM on February 8 until the marathon ends’. Commuters are advised to take alternative routes during this period.

Traffic Diversions & Restrictions

Road Closures

- Red Road & Maidan Area – Closed from ‘Feb 8th 10:00 PM to Feb 9th Noon.’

- RR Avenue, AJC Bose Road, Khidderpore Road – No heavy vehicles allowed from ‘4:00 AM to 12:00 PM’

- Old Court House Street – Southbound vehicles redirected via Esplanade Row East 

- ‘Maa Flyover & Khidderpore Road’ – Vehicles may be diverted to avoid congestion.

Parking Restrictions

To ensure a smooth traffic flow, parking will be strictly prohibited on: 

- Khidderpore Road

- RR Avenue

- Jawaharlal Nehru Road

Additional ‘Temporary Parking Restrictions’ may be implemented in nearby streets based on traffic conditions.
