Kolkata Metro has announced extensive special services across all major lines during Durga Puja 2025, ensuring seamless travel for pandal-hoppers and festival enthusiasts. The services will begin from Panchami (September 27) and feature night-long operations for the first time on both Blue and Green lines.

Night-Long Metro Operations for Main Festival Days

For the first time in Kolkata Metro’s history both Blue and Green lines will operate throughout the night during Saptami, Ashtami and Navami (September 29 to October 1). The Blue Line will run 246 services daily from 1:00 PM until 4:00 AM the following morning, while the Green Line will operate 192 services from 1:30 PM to 4:18 AM.

This unprecedented move addresses the massive surge in passengers during peak Puja days with daily Metro footfall expected to reach 11-12 lakh passengers. The extended hours particularly benefit late-night pandal visitors who can now return home safely without worrying about last trains.

Yellow and Purple Line Special Services

The Yellow Line (Noapara-Airport) will operate 60-62 services daily during festival days, running from 3 PM to 10:35-10:50 PM at 15-minute intervals. The Purple Line (Joka-Majerhat) maintains consistent service with 38 daily trains from 3 PM to 10:55 PM at 25-minute frequency throughout the festival period.

The Orange Line (Kavi Subhash-Beleghata) will remain suspended during the entire Puja period from September 27 to October 2.

Tourist Smart Cards and Digital Convenience

Metro authorities have introduced special Tourist Smart Cards offering unlimited rides for Rs 250 (3 days) and Rs 550 (5 days). These cards are available through the Aamar Kolkata Metro mobile app, eliminating queue hassles and providing seamless travel experience for tourists and pandal-hoppers.

Enhanced Infrastructure and Safety Measures

Additional booking counters, emergency services and crowd management staff will be deployed across all stations during peak days. Metro officials emphasize passenger cooperation, requesting commuters not to overcrowd trains or block doors for smooth operations.

The extended services particularly benefit areas like Salt Lake, Sealdah and Howrah which host major pandals and cultural events. With the Green Line now fully operational from Sector V to Howrah Maidan, connectivity to traditional Puja locations has significantly improved.

Digital Integration and Real-Time Updates

Passengers can access real-time service updates through the Metro Ride Kolkata mobile application. The integration of QR-based ticketing and smart card systems ensures faster boarding and reduced crowding at ticket counters.

Economic Impact and Passenger Benefits

The special services demonstrate Metro’s commitment to supporting Kolkata’s cultural economy, as Durga Puja generates billions in economic activity annually. By providing reliable late-night transportation, the Metro enables extended pandal visits while ensuring passenger safety and convenience.

This comprehensive transportation arrangement represents the largest special service operation in Kolkata Metro’s history, accommodating the festival’s massive logistical requirements while maintaining service quality and passenger safety.
