Rain at Last.? West Bengal Set to Soak in Stormy Showers Today

top-news

After days of blazing heat, West Bengal is finally getting a break.! Today, Kolkata and all of South Bengal’s districts are in for stormy rains, lightning and windy gusts. Weather experts say this could cool things down, with some western areas even expecting hail.

Details & Context

The weather’s turning dramatic across West Bengal. Kolkata woke up to partly cloudy skies and by afternoon, rain is likely to hit. South Bengal districts like Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum and Murshidabad are all on the list for light to moderate showers, mixed with thunder and lightning. Winds could blow at 40-50 kmph and a few western spots might see hailstones.

What’s causing this.? A cyclonic system over North Bengal and nearby Bangladesh is pulling moisture from the Bay of Bengal into the state. This means cloudy skies and a higher chance of rain. The forecast office says the action starts today, takes a short break over the weekend and picks up again on Monday with more storms across South Bengal.

North Bengal isn’t left out either. Malda could see rain with lightning today, while Darjeeling, Kalimpong and other northern districts might get stormy weather starting Sunday. By Monday, the whole region could be drenched.

Quotes

- “Finally, some relief from the heatwave.!” – A hopeful Kolkata resident.

- “Expect scattered showers and strong winds today,” – Weather expert from the forecast office.

Additional Information

- Today’s Forecast: Kolkata and South Bengal districts like Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, and Medinipur are set for rain with gusts up to 50 kmph. Western areas like Purulia and Bankura might see hail.

- Weekend Outlook: Saturday and Sunday will bring lighter, scattered showers in a few South Bengal spots.

- Monday Surge: Rain ramps up again, hitting nearly all South Bengal districts with thunder and winds of 30-40 kmph.

- North Bengal Update: Starting Sunday, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar will see storms. By Monday and Tuesday, Malda, North Dinajpur and South Dinajpur join in with moderate rain and winds up to 50 kmph.

- Kolkata Specifics: Morning clouds will thicken by afternoon, bringing rain and breezy conditions. Temperatures won’t shift much, hovering around 26.8°C (night) and 34.9°C (day), with humidity at 50-92%.

Impact Analysis

This rainy spell could be a game-changer. Farmers in South Bengal might cheer as crops get a much-needed drink after the dry heat. In cities like Kolkata, it’ll ease the sweaty struggle, though gusty winds and lightning could disrupt travel or power lines. Hail in western districts might damage property or fields, so caution is key. For North Bengal, heavier rain next week could boost tea gardens but also risks flooding in low areas.

West Bengal’s weather is flipping the script—from scorching sun to stormy showers. Today’s rain kicks off a wet phase that could refresh the state but it’s not without challenges. Whether you’re in Kolkata or the hills of Darjeeling, keep an umbrella handy and stay tuned for more updates.!
