Summer Twist 2025.! Weather Shift Starts Today in Bengal, Where’s the Relief Rain Coming.?

top-news

Get ready for a weather shake-up in West Bengal starting today, April 1st, 2025.! After a scorching start to the summer, some relief is on the way with scattered showers expected across parts of the state. However, the heatwave forecast for April, May and June looks tough, with temperatures staying above normal for nearly 90 days, says India’s weather office in New Delhi.

Details & Context

The summer of 2025 is flipping the script.! While 2024 was an El Niño year—hot and dry—experts predicted a cooler 2025. Instead, it’s turning hotter, especially in eastern states like Bengal, Bihar and Odisha. Heatwaves, usually lasting 4-7 days, might stretch to 9-11 days this year. April could bring some normal rainfall or pre-monsoon storms but May and June are set to be brutal.

Starting today, a slight breeze and patchy rain will cool things down in some districts. South Bengal gets the bigger share of showers by Friday, while North Bengal sees only light drizzles in three districts. Night time heat, though, isn’t budging yet and rising humidity will keep the sticky feeling alive.

- South Bengal Forecast

Light rain today in East Medinipur, West Medinipur, Jhargram and South 24 Parganas. Thursday brings rain to most western districts except Birbhum. Friday promises scattered showers with gusty winds in some southern areas. Over the weekend, coastal spots like East Medinipur and South 24 Parganas might see more drizzle.

- North Bengal Forecast

Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri could get light rain today and tomorrow. Other northern plains will stay hot and humid.

- Kolkata Forecast

Clear skies today and tomorrow but Friday turns cloudy with a chance of light, patchy rain. Daytime highs hover around 34-35°C, while nights get warmer and sweatier due to rising moisture.

Quotes

A weather expert from New Delhi’s Mausam Bhavan shared

“Eastern India including Bengal is in for a warmer-than-usual summer. Heatwaves will last longer and relief will be limited.”

A Kolkata resident sighed

“The heat is already unbearable and now the humidity.? We need more than just a few drops of rain!”

Additional Information

Last night’s temperature in Kolkata jumped 1.5°C above normal to 26.6°C, while the daytime high hit 34.6°C. Humidity levels swung between 53% and 89%, making it feel muggy with no rain to break the spell. Across the state, moisture in the air is climbing, setting the stage for discomfort even as showers arrive.

Impact Analysis

This weather shift brings a mixed bag. Scattered rain might ease the daytime heat in some areas but sticky nights and longer heatwaves could strain daily life, health and power grids. Farmers hoping for steady pre-monsoon rain might be disappointed, while urban areas like Kolkata brace for sweaty, sleepless nights. The extended summer heat could also push water shortages and cooling costs higher.

Summer 2025 is shaping up to be a tough ride for Bengal.! Today’s weather change offers a small breather with light rain but the bigger battle lies ahead with soaring heat and humidity. Stay prepared for a season that’s rewriting the rules.
