Rain Chances in a Parts of West Bengal Today But Heatwave to Hit Soon..! City Dwellers Brace for Discomfort

top-news

A quick shower might cool down a few spots in South Bengal today but don’t get too comfortable.! Weather experts say the relief won’t last long, as temperatures are set to soar soon across the state, leaving city residents sweating once again.

Details & Context

Today, three districts in western South Bengal—Bankura, Jhargram and West Midnapore—could see light rain with a chance of thunderstorms. This comes after mid-March rains brought a pleasant shift, wrapping the state in a mild, spring-like vibe. But that cozy weather is about to vanish.! Starting tomorrow, the mercury will climb and by Wednesday, a big temperature jump is on the cards.

In Kolkata, daytime highs today will dip nearly 5°C below normal, offering a rare cool day. Across all districts, both day and night temperatures will stay lower than usual today. However, this is just a brief break. North Bengal might see light rain in its upper districts like Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Jalpaiguri by Friday or Saturday, but South Bengal is staring at dry, hot days ahead.

Weather scientists point to an active cyclone in Assam and the southeast Bay of Bengal, plus a trough line stretching from Vidarbha to Kerala, as the reason for today’s rain. But once this system fades, heat will take over.

Quotes

“We expect a temperature rise of 3-5°C by Wednesday across Bengal. Kolkata could hit 35°C this week, while western districts might cross 38°C,” says a weather expert from the regional meteorological department.

“Today’s light rain in some areas will be short-lived. No significant rainfall is forecast for South Bengal for the next 4-5 days,” the expert adds.

Additional Information

- Temperature Trends: From today, both day and night temperatures will creep upward. By Wednesday, expect a 3-5°C spike, with the heat lingering for at least two more days.

- Kolkata Forecast: Morning and evening will feel pleasant today but warmth will build by afternoon. The minimum temperature today is 21.1°C, while yesterday’s high was 29.4°C. Humidity levels are between 54-93%.

- North Bengal Outlook: Starting Monday, temperatures will rise by up to 4°C over three days. Upper districts might see cloudy skies and moderate rain by Friday.

Impact Analysis

The brief rain today might bring a smile to farmers and locals in Bankura, Jhargram and West Midnapore but the looming heatwave could spell trouble. Kolkata residents, already tired of unpredictable weather, will face sticky, uncomfortable days as temperatures climb to 35°C. Western districts could feel even worse, with highs above 38°C. No rain for the next few days means water shortages and heat stress could become concerns, especially in rural areas.

Bengal’s weather is playing a tricky game—offering a sprinkle of rain today before turning up the heat. While a few western districts enjoy a short cool down, the rest of the state, including Kolkata, should gear up for sweaty days ahead. Stay prepared, because this heatwave isn’t going anywhere soon.!
