Chaos in Daspur...! Drunk Youth Attack Police, Smash Vehicles

top-news

A peaceful village festival in West Midnapore turned violent when a group of drunk young men clashed with police. The chaos left one officer with a cracked head, another with a broken hand and a police vehicle smashed to pieces.

Details & Context

The ugly scene unfolded in Sagarpur, under the Daspur police station area of West Midnapore, West Bengal. It all started during a local puja celebration when rowdy, intoxicated youth began causing trouble. When police stepped in to calm things down, the situation exploded. An angry crowd turned on the officers, attacking them with fists and fury. One NVF (National Volunteer Force) member suffered a severe head injury, while an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) had his hand broken. The mob didn’t stop there—they smashed a police vehicle, leaving the area looking like a battlefield.

    - The trouble kicked off late last night.

    - Police rushed to the scene after reports of a disturbance.

    - 14 people have been arrested so far.

Quotes

- Villagers claim: “The police beat up a young man and that’s why he fell and got hurt.”

- Police response: “No, he was drunk and out of control. He fell on his own during the mess.”

Additional Information

The puja festivities were in full swing when the drunken group started stirring trouble. Locals say one youth fell from a temple structure, sparking rumours of police brutality. The police, however insist it was an accident caused by his intoxicated state - he’s now receiving treatment in Kolkata. As tensions boiled over, a huge crowd surrounded the officers, leading to a full-blown clash. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) had to step in to bring order. The injured officers are under care at Ghatal Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Impact Analysis

This violent outburst has shaken the quiet village of Sagarpur. It raises big questions about safety during public events and how alcohol can fuel chaos. The injured officers and damaged property show how quickly things can spiral out of control. For locals, it’s a stain on what should’ve been a joyful celebration. Police are now on high alert and trust between the community and law enforcement might take a hit.

What began as a simple attempt to stop trouble ended in bloodshed and destruction. The Daspur incident is a wake-up call—festivals should bring people together not tear them apart. With 14 arrests made, the law is taking action but the scars of this night will linger.
