Intense Heatwave Expected in Kolkata During Holi - Temperature May Rise by 4°C...!

top-news

Get ready for a blazing Holi this year...! The weather forecast by Alipore Meteorological Department predicts a significant rise in temperatures across West Bengal. The mercury is expected to soar by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius just before Holi, making it feel like a heatwave in Kolkata. While North Bengal may experience scattered rains, South Bengal is set to face a dry and intense heat spell.

Details & Context

- Rising Heat in South Bengal

The temperature in Kolkata could reach 36–37°C on Holi with a real feel close to 40°C.

- Rain in North Bengal

Scattered thunderstorms and light showers are expected in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar over the next few days.

- Storm Alert Along the Coast

Coastal areas may witness tidal surges between 8:30 PM today and 11:30 AM tomorrow lasting for 16 to 22 seconds with waves reaching 6 to 8 meters high.

Quotes

According to a spokesperson from the Alipore Meteorological Department,

    | “The current weather pattern is unusual. With the warm winds moving eastward and the lack of moisture from the northwest regions, South Bengal is experiencing an early onset of extreme heat.”

Additional Information

The unusual heat is due to a double cyclonic system

1. One stretching from Assam to Rajasthan.

2. Another from Bhubaneswar to Malda.

This is preventing moisture from the Northwest from reaching Bengal pushing only dry hot air eastward.

- Western Districts: Could hit 38°C on Holi.

- Delhi & Northwest India: Experiencing unexpected humidity impacting Bengal’s climate indirectly.

Prepare for a scorching Holi in Kolkata this year...! With temperatures spiking by 4°C, the city will feel hotter than usual. Stay hydrated avoid direct sunlight during peak hours and celebrate responsibly.
