Rising Temperatures in Bengal This Spring - Northern Districts Brace for Storms.

As February ends, South Bengal is set to experience a rise in temperatures with Kolkata likely reaching 25°C at the start of March. Meanwhile North Bengal prepares for thunderstorms and possible snowfall in the higher altitudes of Darjeeling.


South Bengal Weather Update

A new western disturbance is expected to enter on March 2nd accompanied by a cyclonic circulation over Assam. Additional circulations have been detected over Rajasthan and Kerala. Light morning fog will cover coastal districts, especially South 24 Parganas and East and West Midnapore. The skies will remain mostly clear and there is no rain forecast for the upcoming week. From tomorrow, temperatures will gradually rise, climbing 3 to 4 degrees over the weekend with Kolkata’s minimum temperature hovering around 24-25°C.


North Bengal Weather Update

In North Bengal Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri will see foggy mornings with fog likely in Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur as well. The foggy weather will persist tomorrow. Darjeeling’s higher altitudes may witness light snowfall influenced by weather patterns in Sikkim. Snowfall chances are highest between Thursday and Saturday. Additionally expect light rain with thunderstorms on Thursday in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri. Rainfall intensity will increase on Friday and continue through Saturday. Temperatures will remain stable over the next 4-5 days.


Kolkata Weather Update

Kolkata’s weather will stay mostly clear for the next 24 hours with temperatures steady. A gradual increase is expected, reaching 25°C by the start of March. Today’s minimum temperature was recorded at 20.6°C while the maximum was 29.9°C. Humidity levels ranged from 52% to 88%.

- Delhi: Thunderstorms with hail expected today and tomorrow.

- Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh: Anticipate rain with hailstorms.

- Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura: Rain likely.

- Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh: Snowfall expected in the next 48 hours.

- Saurashtra, Kutch, Gujarat, Karnataka: Hot and uncomfortable weather.

- Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe: Heatwave conditions.

- South Tamil Nadu coast & South Andaman Sea: Rough sea conditions.

- North Andaman Sea & South Bay of Bengal: Strong winds up to 40 km/h — fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea.


With temperatures rising in South Bengal and storms looming in the north residents are urged to stay updated on weather advisories. As March begins the shifting climate patterns hint at an early summer.
