South Bengal is set to experience sudden weather changes with thunderstorms and hailstorms predicted over the next 48 hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert warning of strong winds and unseasonal rain across various districts.

Unseasonal Rain in Spring

Despite the spring season the weather in Bengal is taking a dramatic turn. Over the next two days, South Bengal will witness heavy clouds, sporadic rain and thunderstorms.

Kolkata too is bracing for stormy weather. The forecast indicates thunderstorms accompanied by hail until Monday. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 60 km/h in some regions.

District-wise Impact

Several districts — including Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Bankura, West Midnapore, East and West Bardhaman and Nadia — are likely to experience strong gusty winds. Wind speeds may range between 30 to 40 km/h across Kolkata and other South Bengal districts with thunderstorms and lightning adding to the intensity.

Weather Update for North Bengal

North Bengal is not spared either. Rainfall is predicted over the next two days with the possibility of snowfall in Darjeeling. The weather shift is influenced by twin cyclonic circulations over Haryana and Nagaland along with an easterly trough extending from Rayalaseema to Chhattisgarh coupled with a western disturbance.

Sunday Forecast

On Sunday, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, North and South 24 Parganas, East Bardhaman, Murshidabad and Nadia are expected to witness thunderstorms and rain. Gusty winds may reach speeds of 30 to 40 km/h.

Sudden Spring Showers

The unseasonal showers have brought unexpected rain to the Falgun season. However the weather is expected to gradually improve from Tuesday onwards.

Kolkata's Weather Outlook

Kolkata will see light fog and partly cloudy skies today. By evening or night there is a chance of thunderstorms and rain. While daytime temperatures are expected to remain steady, night time temperatures have risen by 2 degrees Celsius.

IMD's Prediction

According to the Alipore Meteorological Department tomorrow may also witness thunderstorms and rain. The sky will remain partially to fully cloudy with light to moderate rain in some areas accompanied by gusty winds.

Residents are advised to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel during storm hours. The authorities are closely monitoring the situation and further updates will follow as the weather patterns evolve.
