Storm and Rain are Expected in These Districts in Bengal Before Winter Ends

The weather department has predicted dry conditions in Kolkata for the next two days. However towards the end of the week several districts in South Bengal may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.


Details & Context

Current Weather Outlook

  - The next 24 hours will see dry weather across all districts of West Bengal except for Darjeeling and Kalimpong where light rain is expected.

  - No rainfall is predicted in any part of West Bengal on February 16th, 17th and 18th February.


Upcoming Rainfall Predictions

  - From February 19th some districts in South Bengal are likely to receive light to moderate rain.

  - On February 20th – 21st rain may affect East Bardhaman, Bankura, East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas.

  - Kolkata, Howrah and surrounding areas may see rainfall on February 21st.

  - Some parts of South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas could also witness light rain on February 21st.


Fog and Visibility Issues in North Bengal

  - Dense fog is expected in Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri reducing visibility below 200 meters.

  - This dense fog is likely to persist until the morning of February 16th and the following day.

Temperature Forecast

  - No significant temperature change is expected in the next 24 hours.

  - After 24 hours the minimum temperature may rise by 4°C.

  - In North Bengal no temperature rise is expected in the next 24 hours but it may increase slightly afterward.

  - In Alipore the minimum temperature recorded today was 17.3°C while the maximum was 27.2°C.


Residents should prepare for changing weather conditions especially in South Bengal districts where rain is expected. Travellers in North Bengal should be cautious due to dense fog affecting visibility.
