Will Weather Change on Saraswati Puja.? No Rain But Rising Temperatures Expected.

top-news

As Saraswati Puja approaches many are wondering about the weather. Will there be a winter chill or will temperatures continue to rise.? According to the Alipore Meteorological Department warm conditions will persist during the festival. Though the first week of February might bring a slight winter feel, meteorologists predict that winter will bid farewell by mid-February.

Context

Recent days have seen a noticeable increase in night time temperatures with Kolkata recording a minimum of 21°C signalling the end of winter. Additionally a dense fog alert has been issued for 12 districts across North and South Bengal, reducing visibility to as low as 50 meters.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that a dual cyclonic system is currently active over Assam and Haryana with multiple western disturbances approaching. Two of these disturbances are set to impact northwest India on February 1st and 3rd while strong jet stream winds are also present over northern parts of the country.

In South Bengal temperatures will remain above normal for the next four to five days. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 30°C while the minimum will hover around 20°C. A slight dip in temperature is possible by the end of the first week of February.

Fog & Visibility Update

- Today’s Dense Fog Alert: West Midnapore, Jhargram, West Burdwan, Birbhum and Murshidabad districts.

- Mild to Moderate Fog Expected: Early mornings in other South Bengal districts.

- North Bengal: Dense fog likely in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, North and South Dinajpur and Malda, with visibility dropping to 50 meters.

Kolkata Weather Update

Kolkata recorded a significant temperature rise, reaching 21°C - 6°C above normal. The city will experience moderate fog in the early hours, followed by partly cloudy skies. There is no rain forecast for now.

While the winter season is slowly retreating, no major temperature drops are expected. The weather will remain stable until Monday with only a slight dip in temperature in the following days. By the second week of February winter is likely to disappear completely.
