The incident occurred on Monday night in New Barrackpore under Ghola Police Station's jurisdiction. According to sources, the victim Anupama Sarkar had been facing threats for months from BJP worker Mamata Sarkar and her associates over a land dispute. The altercation reached its peak when the accused allegedly attacked Anupama, tore her clothes and beat her in public.

Family's Allegations

The victim's husband Saurav Sarkar claimed that he was not home during the attack. Upon returning he discovered that his wife had been assaulted. The humiliation and trauma pushed Anupama to take her own life. Her body was discovered at their residence on Tuesday morning.
