Weather Update

Bengal's winter charm is set to make a comeback but not without some interruptions. Due to western disturbances day and night temperatures have risen by 2 to 2.5 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours. Mild winter conditions will continue until Saturday after which a slight chill is expected to return. By January 26th temperatures are likely to drop back to normal levels. However this might be the final stretch of the season's winter, as February will bring a gradual departure of the cold weather after Saraswati Puja.


Rain and Snowfall Forecast

Rain is expected in parts of North Bengal early next week. The hill districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong may even witness light snowfall as per the Alipore Meteorological Department. Ahead of this temperatures will rise until Saturday with minimum readings climbing up to 3°C higher than usual. Post January 26th cold northern winds will return causing a 2-3°C drop in temperature.


Dense Fog Advisory

According to Weather office today dense fog has been reported in districts like Malda, North and South Dinajpur and Cooch Behar. Visibility may drop to as low as 50 meters in isolated areas. Tomorrow the fog is expected to intensify in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts. Southern Bengal, including Kolkata and nearby regions, is also under a fog warning. On January 23rd dense fog will blanket 12 districts including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur and Birbhum. Visibility in some areas may remain critically low.


Kolkata Weather Highlights

- Temperature Update

  Night temperatures in Kolkata have risen from 14.8°C to 16.2°C approximately 2.5°C above normal. Daytime temperatures have climbed from 24.2°C to 26.7°C about 1°C higher than average.

- Humidity Levels

Humidity ranges between 48% and 90% contributing to the current weather fluctuations.

What’s Next.?

The mercury is set to drop by 2-3°C post Sunday night bringing back a mild chill. Until then the mornings and nights will remain pleasant creating an ideal environment for Saraswati Puja festivities.
