After the success of the Vande Bharat Express from Howrah, Eastern Railway plans are underway to introduce this high speed train from Sealdah. A modern maintenance depot in Kashi is being developed to support this new initiative.
Details
The Indian Railways is exploring the possibility of launching the Vande Bharat Express from Sealdah station following its successful operations from Howrah. Currently most Vande Bharat services from West Bengal originate from Howrah Station but now Sealdah is expected to join the network soon.
To facilitate this a state of the art maintenance depot is under construction in Kashipur at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore. This depot will ensure seamless operations and upkeep of the trains.
A senior railway official revealed that once the terminal and related infrastructure at Sealdah are ready, the Vande Bharat service can commence from there.
Expected Timeline
Eastern Railway General Manager Milind K.Deuskar shared that the process of setting up the necessary infrastructure is already underway. If everything goes as planned, the new Vande Bharat Express could start operating within three months.
Additionally, plans are in place to introduce Kavach enabled EMU trains from Howrah, further enhancing rail safety and efficiency in the region.
Significance
The introduction of the Sealdah Vande Bharat Express will not only expand the high speed rail network in Bengal but also improve connectivity and convenience for passengers and around the Sealdah region.
