Last few days a rumour spreading on social media that the retirement age for primary and secondary government school teachers in the West Bengal state had been increased from 60 years to 65 years. However, Education Minister of West Bengal Bratya Basu clarified that the news is absolutely fake and urged people not to believe or spread such false information.
The Viral Claim
On last Saturday a notice circulating on social media claimed that the retirement age for government school teachers had been extended by 5 years. Because of this news was sparked widespread excitement among teachers and it was shared across in various platforms and groups.
Reality Check by the Education Minister
The Education Minister Bratya Basu took to social media to address the rumours. He firmly stated “The news circulating about extending the retirement age of government school teachers to extend 65 is completely false and misleading. The government has not made any such decision. I urge to everyone to refrain from spreading such baseless rumours.”
