A heart breaking incident has shaken whole South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. In a rented house in Sonarpur, a young mother was brutally murdered and her husband was found hanging leaving their 2.5 year old child crying alone helplessly. The shocking incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and mental health.

Details of the Incident

Residents of Bhavanipur, Sonarpur discovered the grim scene on a this Saturday morning. Alarmed by the nonstop cries of the child at the moment neighbours thought this was not good sign so they were tried to entered the house and they find 24 year old Payel Halder’s body with her throat slit lying on the bed. Her husband 34 year old Shashadhar Halder was hanging from the ceiling. The police were immediately informed by the local and police rush to the spot, the bodies were sent for post mortem examination. A small fruit cutting knife suspected to be the murder weapon was recovered from the scene.

Background of the Family

The couple had been living in the rented house for the last eight months with their toddler. Shashadhar Halder worked as a train hawker. According to local peoples frequent domestic disputes were common, but no one anticipated such a horrifying outcome.

Police investigations revealed that Payel had insisted on leaving their ancestral home, which had been a point of contention. This ongoing tension might have led to the tragic incident.

Neighbour’s Testimony

Neighbours reported hearing the child’s cries early in the morning and repeatedly calling out to the couple. When there was no response, neighbours entered the house to find the shocking scene. The traumatised child had spent hours near the lifeless bodies of both parents before being rescued.

Police Investigation

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Crime Faisal Bin Ahmed stated that an investigation in ongoing. Initial findings suggest that Shashadhar killed his wife while she was asleep and then took his own life by hanging himself. The couple’s history of disputes and Shashadhar’s psychological state are key focus points of the probe.

Community Reactions

The incident has left the neighbourhood in shock. The landlord and neighbours expressed deep regret for not being able to foresee or prevent such a tragedy. Support for the orphaned child is now a priority for local authorities and NGOs.
