Islam teaches that good character is the essence of true faith. Among the many aspects of good character treating neighbours with kindness holds a special place. Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) repeatedly emphasised the rights of neighbours and the importance of being considerate and helpful.
The Importance of Good Character in Islam
Good character is a fundamental part of Islam. Without it faith remains incomplete. The Prophet (PBUH) said
“The best among you are those who have the best manners.” (Sunan Abu Dawood)
Acts of worship in Islam are closely tied to good character. For example prayer (Salah) helps a person stay away from immoral behaviour. The Quran states,
“Indeed, prayer prevents immorality and wrongdoing.” (Surah Al-Ankabut: 45)
A true believer is not just someone who prays and fasts but also someone who treats others with kindness and fairness.
Islamic Teachings on Neighbourly Kindness
