Bengal Weather Update: Fierce Storm Hits West Bengal.! Kolkata and 5 Districts Brace for Heavy Rain

top-news

Hold on tight, West Bengal.! A powerful low-pressure system is unleashing wild storms and rain across the state. Kolkata and five other districts are in for a soaking, with thunder and gusty winds ready to shake things up. Get ready for nature’s big show.!

Details & Context

The season’s first Kalbaishakhi storm slammed West Bengal yesterday, drenching 14 districts and cooling Kolkata’s nights by a whopping 4.5°C. A strong low-pressure zone in the Bay of Bengal is driving this weather chaos and it’s not done yet.

- Today (Friday): All South Bengal districts face light to moderate rain with lightning. Six districts—West Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, West Bardhaman and Birbhum—expect winds up to 50 kmph.

- Weekend Outlook: Saturday and Sunday keep the storm alert for these six, with 30-40 kmph gusts and scattered showers.

- North Bengal: All districts see rain but Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and Jalpaiguri will get hit hardest with 40-50 kmph winds.

Kolkata’s already feeling it—last night’s rain brought relief but sticky humidity’s creeping back today.

Quotes

A weather expert said, “This low-pressure system’s fading but still packing a punch—expect more rain and wind.!”

A Kolkata resident cheered, “The cool night felt amazing but I’m ready for more showers.!”

Additional Information

The Bay of Bengal’s low-pressure zone is moving northwest, weakening as it hits central waters. Swirling weather systems in Assam, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are adding fuel, with wind patterns stretching from Tamil Nadu to Vidarbha. Kolkata’s temperature dropped from 26.1°C to 21.4°C overnight, with 3 mm of rain recorded in 24 hours. North Bengal could cool by 3°C over the next few days but no big temperature shifts are expected after. Other states like Assam, Bihar and Tamil Nadu face heavy rain, while Uttarakhand and Jharkhand brace for possible hail.

Impact Analysis

This stormy spell’s a mixed bag. Farmers might cheer the rain but lightning and winds could zap crops or power lines. Kolkata’s streets risk water logging, snarling traffic and daily life. North Bengal’s heavy showers could spark landslides in hilly areas. On the plus side, cooler nights offer a break from the heat, and water reserves get a boost. But unprepared towns might struggle if drains clog or winds intensify.

West Bengal’s getting a wild weather ride.! From Kolkata’s soaked streets to North Bengal’s stormy hills, this Kalbaishakhi’s making waves. Stay safe and keep your umbrellas handy—the rain’s here to stay for now.!
