Install Solar Panels on Your Rooftop and Get Free Electricity.! Who Can Apply.?

PM Surya Ghar...! Free Electricity Scheme Details, The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has recently announced that the PM ‘Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme (PMSGMBY)’ has already benefited 8.46 lakh families within its first year.

Under this scheme families can install subsidised solar panels on their rooftops significantly reducing their electricity bills - and in some cases making electricity completely free.

This initiative has gained massive popularity across several states. As per the latest data the top five states leading in rooftop solar panel installations are

- Gujarat: 41.47% installations

- Maharashtra: 22.79%

- Uttar Pradesh: 8.69%

- Kerala: 7.73%

- Rajasthan: 3.14%

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this scheme on 13th February 2024 with a target to provide solar energy to 1 crore families by March 2027.




Key Benefits of the PM Surya Ghar Scheme

- Subsidy: Up to 40% subsidy for installing solar panels.

- Financial Aid: Rs 4,308.66 crore distributed among 5.54 lakh residential consumers

- Savings: Average subsidy per family is Rs 77,800

- Zero Electricity Bill: Around 45% of beneficiaries have reduced their electricity bills to zero, depending on their solar power usage


How to Apply for the PM Surya Ghar Scheme.?

If you want to take advantage of this free electricity scheme follow these simple steps

1. Visit the Official Website: Go to https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/

2. Click on ‘Consumer’ Option: Hover your mouse over ‘Consumer’ and click on ‘Apply Now’.

3. Registration: Enter your mobile number, solve the captcha and check the box confirming you have read the guidelines.

4. OTP Verification: Enter the OTP sent to your mobile and log in.

5. Complete Your Profile: Fill in your details - full name, email ID, address, district, state and pin code.

6. Upload Roof Photo: Select the option to upload a photo of your rooftop.

7. Submit Bank Details: Ensure your bank account name matches the name on your electricity bill.

8. Get Application Number: After submission, you will receive an application number for future reference.

You can also apply through the ‘Apply for Solar Rooftop’ or ‘Vendor’ options available on the portal.

- Cancelled check or bank passbook copy

- Electricity bill matching the bank account holder's name
