India is preparing for its next ambitious space mission — Mangalyaan-2 or the Mars Lander Mission (MLM). The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is awaiting the final nod from Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet following the approval from the Space Commission. If successful India will become the fourth country in the world to land a spacecraft on Mars.

What is Mangalyaan-2.?

The Mars Lander Mission aims to take India's space research to new heights. Unlike the first Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) launched in 2014 this second mission will focus on deploying a lander and rover on Mars’ surface to conduct advanced scientific research.

The Mars Orbiter Mission, also known as Mangalyaan-1, was a ground breaking achievement. India not only became the first Asian country to enter Mars orbit but also the first nation globally to succeed in its Mars mission on the very first attempt, showcasing ISRO's expertise in cost-effective interplanetary missions.

Why is This Mission Important.?

The Mangalyaan-2 mission is part of a larger plan. India is striving to

- Establish a Space Station by 2035

- Send an Indian astronaut to the Moon by 2040

- Develop Next Generation Launch Vehicles (NGLV)

- Conduct multiple Chandrayaan (Moon) missions

This upcoming Mars mission will boost India's scientific capabilities and reinforce its status as a key player in global space exploration.

Advanced Technology at Play

ISRO plans to use cutting-edge technology similar to the methods employed by the US and China. Reports suggest that Mangalyaan-2 will feature,

- Sky Cranes for soft landing

- Supersonic Parachutes to slow down the lander

- Rovers and Helicopters for Mars surface exploration

So far only NASA and China's CNSA have successfully used these technologies for Mars landings. With Mangalyaan-2 India aims to join this elite group.

The Road Ahead

With the final approval from the Prime Minister's office pending, the Mars Lander Mission is on the brink of becoming a reality. ISRO’s vision goes beyond Mars — pushing boundaries in both planetary exploration and human spaceflight.

Stay tuned as India prepares to make history once again.!
