The Finance Minister confirmed that no income tax will be levied on earnings up to Rs 12 lakh. For individuals earning between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 16 lakh, a 10% income tax will apply. Those with earnings between Rs 16 lakh and Rs 20 lakh will be taxed at a rate of 15%. For earnings ranging from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 24 lakh the tax rate will be 25%. Finally for income exceeding Rs 24 lakh, the tax rate will be 30%.

Another important announcement was the increase in the standard deduction from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 which will provide additional savings. The Finance Minister also mentioned that senior citizens will benefit from higher tax exemptions, now up to Rs 1 lakh compared to the previous Rs 50,000.
