Indian Railways is all set to introduce the premium Vande Bharat Sleeper Train designed for the medium distance overnight journeys. While the exact routes are not yet to be finalised, the Vande Bharat train has already completed its first trial run and marking a significant milestone in its development.

The Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) in Lucknow conducted the trial run of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train in the Jhansi Division on this Monday. During the trial test the train reached a speed up to ‘115 kmph’. Northern Railway officials confirmed the successful completion of this phase and shared plans for further testing.

Speed and Brake Testing

The next trial run will be conducted in the ‘Kota Division’ of Western Railway where the Vende Bharat train is expected to achieve a top speed of ip to ‘180 kmph’. Along with the speed the braking system will also undergo rigorous testing to ensure for safety of the passenger.

Routes for Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

Although routes are not yet to be officially announced speculation suggests that the train may run on popular routes such as

New Delhi to Pune

New Delhi to Srinagar

These train routes are expected to cater to long distance travellers, enhancing overnight connectivity.

Launch Timeline

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to launch by the Indian Railways in the upcoming 2025 after completing all the necessary trials and approvals. This project was first announced in the year of ‘2023-24 Union Budget’ and Indian Railways is working swiftly to make it operational.
