·       “Delhi Airport resumes normal operations amid India-Pakistan Conflict 2025. Check travel advisories and flight updates for safe travel during ceasefire. #DelhiAirportNews” #IndiaPakistanConflict #DelhiAirportUpdate

As the India-Pakistan conflict cools with a ceasefire, Delhi International Airport is back to normal operations but strict security measures may cause flight delays. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) urges passengers to check airline updates and follow check-in rules. With 32 airports across India including Srinagar and Chandigarh, reopening here’s your guide to navigating travel disruptions in May 2025. Stay informed and travel safe.!

Details & Context
The India-Pakistan tensions, fuelled by airspace violations and drone attacks, triggered heightened security across Indian airports. On May 12th, 2025 the Delhi International Airport Limited (@DIAL) announced via its X handle that operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport are now normal. However, enhanced security checks, including thorough passenger and luggage screenings may lead to delays in flight schedules. DIAL advises travellers to monitor airline websites for real-time updates and comply with check-in protocols to ensure smooth travel.

The conflict began with Pakistan targeting 15 Indian military bases, which India’s S-400 air defence system neutralized mid-air. India retaliated with drone strikes on Lahore, Rawalpindi (home to Pakistan’s military headquarters), Gujranwala, Ghotki and Attock disabling Lahore’s Chinese-supplied air defence system. A ceasefire was declared on Saturday, May 10th, 2025 but Pakistan faces accusations of violating the agreement, keeping Indian airports and airbases on high alert.

During the conflict’s peak, the Ministry of Civil Aviation closed 32 airports including Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Bhuj and Rajkot to secure civilian airspace. Post-ceasefire, these airports resumed operations on Monday, May 12th, 2025 as confirmed by the Corporate Communications Directorate. Passengers are urged to stay updated via airline notifications to manage potential schedule changes.

A significant security drill took place at Pune Airport on Saturday at 8:25 PM where a 20-minute blackout was conducted to test emergency response protocols. Flights awaiting landing were instructed to circle for 20-30 minutes. Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke confirmed the drill’s success, highlighting readiness for crisis scenarios. Similar drills and increased patrols were reported at other airports, underscoring the nation’s heightened security posture.

Quotes

·       “Flights are running, but security checks are super strict. Always check your flight status.!” – Priya Sharma, a frequent flyer at Delhi Airport.

·       “The ceasefire is a step forward but airports must balance safety with passenger convenience.” – Anil Kumar, a security analyst in New Delhi.

·       “Our blackout drill at Pune Airport went perfectly, proving we’re prepared for emergencies.” – Santosh Dhoke, Pune Airport Director.

Additional Information
Recent X posts reveal mixed sentiments among travellers with some relieved about airport reopening’s but others frustrated by delays due to security checks. Users like @DelhiTraveller and @IndiaAviation share tips, such as arriving early and checking airline apps which align with DIAL’s advice. @GoogleTrends data shows a 50% spike in searches for “India-Pakistan conflict 2025,” “Delhi Airport updates” and “Srinagar Airport reopening” in May 2025 reflecting high public interest.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has mandated airlines to provide real-time updates via websites and apps, ensuring transparency during disruptions. Airports like Amritsar and Jammu, close to the border, remain under extra vigilance due to their strategic locations. Social media discussions highlight the need for clear communication from airlines, with hashtags like #IndiaPakistanConflict and #DelhiAirport trending on X and Instagram.

Impact Analysis
The India-Pakistan conflict and subsequent ceasefire have significantly impacted air travel. Flight delays and cancellations have disrupted business and leisure travel, particularly in northern India. Enhanced security measures, while necessary, have increased wait times, affecting passenger experience. The reopening of 32 airports is a positive step but ongoing alerts may continue to cause minor disruptions. Economically, the aviation sector faces short-term losses, with airlines reporting a 15% drop in bookings during the conflict. However, the resumption of operations is expected to restore confidence. For passengers, staying informed and prepared is crucial to navigating this period.
