In 2025 Maha Shivratri will be observed from Wednesday 26th February starting at 11:10 AM and will end on Thursday 27th February at 8:55 AM as per the Vishuddha Siddhanta Panjika. Rituals and Offerings for Maha Shivratri 2025

Worshippers follow specific rituals during Maha Shivratri, starting from the day before,

1. Pre-Fasting Preparation

   - Devotees consume a simple vegetarian diet the day before Shivratri to purify their body and mind.

2. Observing the Fast

   - The fast begins on the morning of Maha Shivratri and continues till the next day. Some devotees observe a strict waterless fast (Nirjala Vrat) while others consume fruits and milk.

3. Ritual Bath of Shiva Lingam

   - The Shiva Lingam is bathed four times during the night with Ganga water, milk, ghee and honey.

4. Offerings to Lord Shiva

   - Sacred items like Bel leaves, Datura flowers, Aak flowers, Aparajita flowers (Blue flowers) and fruits or sweets are presented.

5. Chanting Mantras

   - Devotees chant “Om Namah Shivaya” throughout the night performing four rounds of puja during each Prahar (phase of the night).
