The tragic deaths of three women from a prominent business family in Tangra have left investigators puzzled. Family members allegedly consumed kheer mixed with sedatives and blood pressure medication before attempting self-harm. When the drugs failed to have the desired effect some slit their wrists while others tried to jump from the terrace. The exact cause of death remains under investigation with forensic reports awaited.

The Disturbing Sequence of Events

Survivors of the tragic incident claim that six family members consumed a high dose of sedatives and blood pressure medication mixed into kheer on Monday night. By Tuesday morning, Priyambada the young daughter of Prasun De began vomiting and lost consciousness. Mistakenly believing her dead, the rest of the family attempted suicide.

Pranay De, his brother Prasun and Pranay's teenage son rushed to the terrace allegedly attempting to jump off but their attempt was unsuccessful. Later they drove away in a car late at night. Police are verifying the survivor’s statements and are investigating whether the deaths were murders or suicides.

Unanswered Questions in the Investigation

Forensic experts are examining the bodies to determine the exact cause of death. The three deceased women had deep wounds on their wrists but investigators were particularly puzzled by additional injuries. Prasun's wife Romi had deep cuts on both her wrists while Pranay’s wife Sudeshna had a single deep wrist wound. Both women also had their throats slit. Investigators question whether it was physically possible for them to slit their own throats after cutting their wrists.

Additionally young Priyambada had bruises on her nose raising suspicions that she might have been suffocated. The police are also probing why a blood-stained paper cutter was found on the third floor while the bodies were discovered on the second floor.

Financial Distress and Business Setback

Brothers Pranay and Prasun De were partners in a leather glove manufacturing company “Protective Leather Gloves Pvt Ltd” located on 21 Sealdah Lane in Tangra. Their company exported products to the US, Russia and Germany but business suffered significant losses due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Mounting debts had reportedly pushed the brothers into severe financial distress.

Sources reveal that the business had outstanding debts worth lakhs with a major unpaid loan of INR 35 lakh owed to NG Brothers Enterprise, run by Gaurav Sarkar. Cheques had been bouncing since 2023 and the brothers had been struggling to keep their business afloat.

Police and Forensic Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating the exact chain of events with forensic teams analysing the bloodstains found in the dining area and bathroom. Police have filed a murder case based on a complaint from one of the deceased women’s fathers. Meanwhile, Pranay, Prasun and the teenage son remain in critical condition at Ruby Hospital’s ICU.

Law enforcement agencies continue to question employees and financial associates, including factory staff regarding any hidden financial troubles. The factory remains shut down as investigations continue.

With multiple conflicting narratives the case remains shrouded in mystery. The forensic report will be crucial in determining whether this was a case of suicide due to financial stress or something far more sinister.
