Residents of Upohar Efficiency and Comfort Society near EM Bypass, Panchasayar have been facing a growing health crisis for months. Several residents reported stomach infections prompting a water quality test that revealed the presence of harmful ‘E. Coli bacteria’ in their drinking water.

Dangerous Contamination in Drinking Water

The discovery of ‘E. Coli in the residential complex’s water supply’ has raised serious health concerns. Residents have reported increasing cases of stomach infections over the past few months. Some even required hospitalization. A local pharmacy confirmed that many residents had purchased medicines for similar symptoms.

Shocking Test Results Confirm E. Coli Presence

To identify the root cause water samples from ‘treated water sources and the main reservoir’ were tested. The results confirmed the presence of E. Coli a bacteria known for causing ‘severe digestive issues, diarhea and other serious infections. Vivek Bandopadhyay the society's vice president, stated, “We suspected water contamination for the past three months. When we got the samples tested bacteria were found.”

Medical Experts Warn of Severe Health Risks

Doctors have warned that in severe cases ‘E. Coli infections can lead to life-threatening conditions’ if not treated in time. The main concern now is determining ‘how the bacteria entered the drinking water supply’.

Possible Source of Contamination

The ‘water reservoir of the society is located right next to an underground fire safety water tank’. Residents fear that due to their close proximity, ‘contaminants from the fire safety tank might have leaked into the drinking water supply’. ‘Images of the tank show visible algae and dirt accumulation’ raising further concerns about hygiene.

Challenges in Cleaning the Reservoir

The society’s president Subhasis Bandopadhyay revealed that cleaning the water reservoir is a complex task. “We need permission from the fire department to proceed with the cleaning process and we are working on getting approval,” he added.
