In a shocking development a Pakistan Army convoy was ambushed in Balochistan, resulting in the death of 90 soldiers, according to Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). The attack involved a suicide bombing followed by heavy gunfire on military buses. The Pakistan government, however has officially confirmed only seven casualties.

Details & Context

- The attack took place on Sunday when a military convoy was traveling from Quetta to Taftan.

- A Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) was used to target one of the eight military buses, completely destroying it.

- BLA’s Majeed Brigade has taken responsibility for the suicide attack.

- This incident follows the recent hijacking of Jaffar Express, where BLA had taken 214 passengers hostage.

Quotes

“Our fidayeen (suicide) squad launched a precision attack on the enemy convoy using an explosive-laden vehicle, causing massive damage.”

Pakistan Government Response

“We will not tolerate terrorism in Balochistan. The militants responsible for this cowardly attack will face severe consequences.” – Balochistan CM Sarfraz Bugti.

Additional Information

- BLA is a separatist group demanding independence for Balochistan, a region rich in natural resources but plagued by conflicts with Pakistan’s military.

- Pakistan considers BLA a terrorist organisation and has vowed to eliminate its fighters.

- After the attack, helicopters and drones were deployed in the area to assess the damage and track down the attackers.
