Bangladesh Warns India Over Sheikh Hasina’s Political Activities
Nahid Islam the Information and Broadcasting Advisor of the new Bangladeshi government has issued a strong statement regarding Sheikh Hasina’s stay in India. He stated that India has provided shelter to the former Prime Minister but if she uses Indian soil for political activities India must take full responsibility.
Addressing an event at the Bangla Academy, Nahid emphasised the diplomatic nature of the issue urging India to return Sheikh Hasina to Bangladesh, instead of allowing her to influence politics from exile.
Tensions Rise as Mujibur Rahman’s Residence Demolished
In a dramatic development authorities in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi have bulldozed the historic residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Bangladesh’s founding leader and Sheikh Hasina’s father. The demolition has triggered widespread reactions with opposition groups celebrating and Hasina’s supporters condemning the act.
Earlier student activists opposing Hasina’s party organised mass protests demanding an end to her influence in Bangladesh’s political affairs. Meanwhile a section of social media erupted with slogans supporting the move, while others criticised it as an attack on the nation’s history.
Sheikh Hasina Responds – “History Will Take Revenge”
Amid the turmoil Sheikh Hasina broke her silence through social media. In a strong statement she warned that history never forgets.
“Attempts are being made to erase our proud history but they will fail. The constitution and the sacrifices of our freedom fighters cannot be destroyed by bulldozers. Those who think they can rewrite history will face its consequences” she stated.
She further accused the current regime of weakening Bangladesh’s independence and favouring external influences drawing a comparison with past political upheavals.
