US President Donald Trump has stated that there are "No Guarantees" the ceasefire in Gaza will last. His remarks come just before his scheduled meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington to discuss the next phase of the truce with Hamas.
Context
As Netanyahu arrived in Washington, discussions were expected to focus on maintaining stability in Gaza, countering Iran and securing the release of remaining hostages. The ceasefire which took effect two weeks ago has allowed humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and brought temporary relief to the conflict-ridden region.
Hamas officials have indicated their willingness to begin negotiations for the next phase of the truce which may lead to further prisoner exchanges and a long-term peace agreement. However tensions remain high with Trump cautioning that peace in the region is still uncertain.
