Israel’s military has launched airstrikes on multiple Hezbollah targets in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. The attacks come two months after a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese militant group following last year’s conflict.
Israel’s Justification for the Strikes
According to the Israeli military the strikes targeted Hezbollah’s underground facilities used for weapon production, along with smuggling routes along the Syrian - Lebanese border. Israel claims these locations posed a direct security threat.
Ceasefire Violations & Rising Tensions
The attack follows an incident where Israel intercepted a Hezbollah drone near its border. Israel accused Hezbollah of violating the ceasefire agreement, which was meant to prevent further escalations.
Ceasefire Agreement & Delayed Withdrawal
As part of the ceasefire Israel was supposed to withdraw its forces from Lebanon by January 26th but missed the deadline. The new deadline is set for February 18th. However Israel insists that the Lebanese army has not fulfilled its commitment to securing the southern region and keeping Hezbollah forces away from the border.

What’s Next.?
Under the ceasefire terms Hezbollah is expected to pull back its forces north of the Litani River and dismantle any remaining military structures in southern Lebanon. Whether these recent airstrikes will escalate tensions further remains uncertain.
The situation in Lebanon remains fragile as Israel continues its military operations against Hezbollah. With both sides accusing each other of ceasefire violations the risk of renewed conflict looms over the region.
