In the early hours of Tuesday, a massive fire broke out at the “Kartepe Ski Resort” in “Bolu Province, Northern Turkey” claiming 66 lives and leaving at least 51 injured. The resort packed with tourists enjoying the winter holidays turned into a scene of panic as many jumped from upper floors to escape the flames.

Devastation in the Early Morning

The fire started around 3:30 AM engulfing the entire resort built on a hilltop. The location made it difficult for emergency services to arrive promptly delaying rescue operations. More than 30 fire engines and almost 28 ambulances were dispatched but the scale of the fire and the resort’s remote location complicated efforts.

Tourists Trapped in the Blaze

The resort was housing 234 guests including families enjoying the school holiday season. As the fire spread rapidly many tourists used ropes or jumped from as high as the 11th floor in desperate attempts to save themselves. Tragically some of these attempts resulted in fatal falls while others sustained serious injuries.

A Resort in Chaos

The initial moments after the fire sparked were marked by chaos. Guests rushed to escape leading to several being injured in stampedes. Emergency workers reported that the dense smoke and collapsing structures made rescue operations extremely challenging.

Official Response

Turkey's Governor Abdulaziz Aydin confirmed the incident stating that 267 personnel were involved in rescue efforts. While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown investigations are underway to determine how the tragedy unfolded.
