Tibet Earthquake Update....! 126 Dead, Over 200 Injured, 30 Thousand peoples Rescued

A powerful earthquake struck Tibet near the Nepal border early last Tuesday morning, claiming 126 lives and injuring over 200 peoples. With a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale, the quake caused widespread destruction and triggered multiple aftershocks displacing thousands.


What Happened.?

On Tuesday early morning a 7.1 magnitude earthquake shaken 'Tibet' and hit the Everest adjacent region of Tibet near the Nepal border. The quake struck around 6:30 AM followed by aftershocks measuring 4.7, 4.9 and 5.0 within a minutes. The epicenter was located in the Tengri region a gateway to Everest’s northern side at a depth of 10 kilometres beneath the surface.


Devastation in Numbers

- Deaths: 126 reported so far.

- Injuries: Over 200 people injured, with 188 critically affected.

- Displacement: 30 thousands of residents moved to safer areas.

- Direct Impact: At least 400 people were directly affected by the earthquake.

Buildings, including homes, schools, hospitals and offices, collapsed entirely in the hardest hit areas.


Regional Impact

The tremors were felt across Nepal, Bhutan and northern India, including regions like Bihar, Assam, and West Bengal. Even Kolkata also experienced mild shaking.

Memories of 2015 Resurface

This disaster has rekindled memories of the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake which had a magnitude of 7.8 and killed nearly 9 thousand peoples while injuring over 22 thousand peoples. Although the scale of destruction this time is lower the impact is significant and the affected regions are grappling with fear and uncertainty.


Rescue and Relief Efforts

Rescue operations are underway in the affected regions. Authorities have evacuated thousands and providing temporary shelters for the displaced. Medical aid, food and essential supplies are being rushed to the impacted areas.
