A very tragic plane crash happened at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province, South Korea. It has claimed almost 85 people’s live. The incident occurred this on Sunday early morning (December 29) involving a Jeju Air flight carrying 181 peoples including passengers and crew members.

The Jeju Air Flight No 2216 arriving from Thailand skidded off the runway while attempting to land at Muan International Airport. The aircraft was carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members. Among the passengers, 173 were South Koreans, and two were Thai nationals.

Initially, reports indicated 29 fatalities. However as rescue efforts continued, the death toll rose to 85 with officials warning that the number could increase further. Emergency services have rescued two survivors from the wreckage.

Cause of the Crash

The exact cause of the plane crash remains unclear. Local reports suggest that the landing gear might have failed due to a bird strike but investigations still are ongoing. 

Rescue Operations: The South Korea’s fire department has already sent 80 firefighters and 32 vehicles to the crash site. The rescue teams are still working tirelessly to recover victims and investigators investigate the cause of the accident.

Statements from Authorities: Jeju Air expressed deep sorrow over the plane crash incident, stating, “We are apologise to all those affected by this tragic accident. We are committed to providing support and addressing this painful situation.”

According to BBC report, Muan International Airport operational since 2007 serves various Asian destinations.
